Honda’s 2018 Clarity Electric hits dealers in California and Oregon
Japanese automaker Honda has recently made its new electric car -- the 2018 Honda Clarity Electric -- available for purchase at its dealerships in California and Oregon. Honda has been moving slowly in the electric vehicle segment and the move marks another major support for the segment from Japanese automobile giant.
The 2018 Clarity Electric can be purchased by customers in a lease-only deal; it cannot be bought outright by customers. The car has been quite aggressively priced by Honda, especially since it faces fierce competition in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
The deal which is being offered by Honda for the 2018 Clarity Electric requires the customers to pay a down payment of $1,499; with an amount of $199 -- plus taxes -- to be paid per month, for a period of 36 months. The lease includes 24/7 roadside assistance, and the customers leasing the car will get 20,000 miles per year.
The aggressively priced Honda Clarity Electric is equipped with a small battery which gives it a barely 89-mile range. In comparison, its competitors like the 2018 Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Bolt EV have a 151-mile range and a 238-mile range respectively.
However, the small battery of the 2018 Honda Clarity Electric comes with the advantage of faster charging. The battery can reach up to 80% of its capacity in only 30 minutes when a DC fast charger is used, and in nearly 3.5 hours when a Level 2 home charger is used for charging it.
