Audi plans to build 20 new electrified cars by 2025
On Wednesday, German automaker Audi announced at its annual meeting that it plans to build 20 new electrified cars by the year 2025. The automaker also added that most of the planned electrified cars will be battery-powered vehicles.
According to the announcement made by Audi, an investment of 40 billion Euros ($47.6 billion) has been earmarked by the automaker for manufacturing the planned electrified cars, developing a new app platform for its cars, and building a new self-driving vehicle fleet for launch in 2021.
Revealing that the mentioned investment represents nearly two years of revenue for Audi, the automaker said that a part of the investment will also go towards developing sustainable factories.
Audi has an ambitious plan of selling 800,000 electrified cars by 2025. In its first move in that direction, the automaker will be introducing the production version of its new e-tron electric SUV at an event to be held on August 30, 2018. The SUV will have a range of 300 miles, and will apparently boast the fastest charging capability of any electric vehicle currently available on the market.
Thereafter, in year 2020, a high-performance e-tron GT sedan and a compact car will be launched by Audi; to be followed by the launch of two more electric SUVs in 2021.
